Remember how a few weeks ago the press was full of stories about how the Russians were hacking the French election?
Well, it turns out it was all a mistake according to the head of the French government’s cyber security agency.
Remember when it was taken as a given by self-assured pundits that "Russia" had hacked the Macron campaign servers? https://t.co/4SYL6U3YTQ

Here are a few of the headlines from early May that assured us that the Russians were hacking the French:
Emmanuel Macron has won the French presidential election, despite yet another Russian intervention in support of a candidate (Marine Le Pen) whose views are decidedly illiberal and pro-Kremlin
The Russian hacking attack intended to disrupt the French election was a reminder that cyberattacks can also be defeated.
Just so we’re all clear on this: Russia hacked the French elections, US Republicans, and Dems
Of course, none of these prime examples of fake news purveyors have given anywhere near the coverage to the statement by the French government that the Russians really were not involved in trying to influence the French election.
