A Texas deputy sheriff has been indicted in the death of a 24-year-old man outside of Denny’s restaurant near Houston.
Deputy Chauana Thompson who, along with her husband Terry Thompson, faces life in prison if found guilty.
Terry Thompson got into a fight with John Hernandez outside of a Denny’s restaurant after Hernandez, who was with his wife and daughter at Denny’s, went outside, and urinated by his car. This enraged Thompson.
Thompson put a chokehold on Hernandez that he would not release even as the man began to turn purple. Witnesses said they “begged him to get off the man and he wouldn’t.”
Thompson’s wife, Chauana, who was off duty arrived after the incident started, apparently did nothing to stop the choking. According to the New York Daily News, a witness described the deputies actions after she arrived.
Even after I told him ‘stop, stop’ and other people were screaming he wouldn’t do it. His wife didn’t do anything because I went in to call the police she was already there on the side, and I didn’t see her do anything, I didn’t hear tell him to stop. I didn’t hear her tell him anything. She just was watching.
