A jury in Glynn County, Georgia has found Justin Ross Harris guilty of multiple counts of murder for leaving his infant son to die in a hot car in the summer of 2014.
Harris’s defense argued that the father loved his 22-month-old son Cooper. They acknowledged his carelessness, but said that he would have never intentionally left the boy to swelter in a hot car for seven hours.
The jury, however, sided with prosecutors who said that the man was leading a “double life,” and wanted to get out of his marriage and family. They brought forward a number of women, including a minor, with whom Harris was having romantic and explicit text message conversations.
The venue was moved from Cobb County to it’s current venue at the request of the defense. The trial began finally on October 3, 2016 and lasted for 22 days with testimony from a total of 88 witnesses, though the vast majority of them were for the prosecution.
Harris was found guilty after several days of deliberation by the jury on eight total counts.
