There’s a reason states passed laws prohibiting texting while driving. People just can’t seem to pay attention to anything else while they have their phone in front of them.
Thousands of people die on the roads and highways of America while trying to read or send messages. There’s something about misspelled words and unnecessarily useless comments that hypnotizes human beings.
A 67-year-old New Jersey woman was distracted by her phone while walking down Somerset Street in Plainfield.
Security cameras caught the instant when she walked right into an open sidewalk door where men were working on a gas line below. The woman, who tumbled 6 feet, suffered major injuries and is in serious condition in hospital.
In her defense, there were no barriers or warnings about the open access doors in the sidewalk. It looks like she wouldn’t have seen the opening whether she was using her phone or not.
She may have been distracted by the two young ladies walking toward her as well.
Clash Daily reports:
Dang! That’s gotta hurt! Have you ever been THIS distracted by your cell phone?
Seriously, people need to put the freaking phone down sometimes!
