Secretary of Defense ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis revealed that President Trump’s strong leadership saved countless lives by preventing a war.
It took some careful and calculated political maneuvering to prevent escalation of war between the United States and Russia.
Trump chose to destroy a Syrian airbase back in April because of Assad’s chemical weapons attack against his own people. In doing so, the President sent a clear message: while we will work with Syria to fight ISIS, we will not tolerate our allies harming innocent civilians.
The President’s reaction to that incident demonstrated that he’s a decisive leader who will act when foreign powers cross the line. As Mattis noted, Syria abruptly stopped using chemical weapons. “It appears they took the warning seriously,” he said.
At the same time, the incident showed that the President knows how to contain conflict. Pundits claimed that President Trump was going to start World War III when he gave the order to hit the Syrian airbase. Many people were worried the decision would lead to conflict with Russia.
The President made clear that the last thing he wants to do is send our troops to die in another Middle Eastern nation-building scheme.
