Bernie Sanders, D-VT, told a crowd at a rally in Morgantown, West Virginia, that the GOP’s health care plan will kill more Americans each year than the terrorist attack on 9-11.
Wow! That’s quite a claim. What facts does Sanders have to support it?
Sanders admitted that nobody could make that prediction. He went on to explain that experts at the Harvard School of Public Health estimated, that if 23 million Americans were taken off the insurance they currently have, up to 28,000 Americans every single year could die.
Health care expert Avik Roy pointed out the numbers Sanders is basing his claim on aren’t accurate. Sanders used the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) estimate from March 2016. That estimate indicated the AHCA could lead to 24 million fewer U.S. residents having health insurance by 2026.
In fact, the CBO has already revised its projections of enrollment in Obamacare several times, and they’ll have to revise them again. Based on new estimates, the CBO’s view of the difference between current law and the AHCA is off by at least 7 million. The real decrement in coverage of the AHCA relative to the ACA is closer to 5 million, not 24 million as Sanders suggested.
And that 5 million can be fixed with a few technical changes to the bill.

Somebody, please give that man a pudding cup before he goes nuclear!
On Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) speaking at a rally in Morgantown, W.Va., said that the Republican health care plan to replace the Affordable Care Act would kill more Americans every year than the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks did.
