Daily Mail reports:
A mother-of-three from Texas has turned herself in after police say she left her children alone in a bathtub while she had sex in another room, and her 23-month-old daughter drowned.
Amanda Clark, 26, surrendered to police in Alvord on Tuesday, more than a week after the tragic passing of her youngest child, Alexandria Marie Clark.
According to investigators, Wise County sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call at around 5pm on October 23 from Ms Clark saying her youngest daughter was not breathing.
The emergency dispatcher who took the call instructed the woman on how to perform CPR on the girl while awaiting the arrival of firefighters and paramedics, reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Little Alexandria was then rushed to Wise Health System in nearby Decatur, where she died a short time later.
An arrest affidavit, cited by the station WFAA, states that Clark told police that on the evening of October 23, she drew a bath for her three daughters, ages two, three and six, placed them in the water with some toys and went into her bedroom to meet with a ‘male companion’ behind closed doors.
When questioned by police, the man said he had come to Clark’s home in Alvord for a ‘booty call,’ according to the arrest document.
He also revealed that Clark’s three daughters had been playing in the living room before she rounded them up and took them to the bathroom so she could have sex with him.
A few minutes into their amours encounter, Clark’s six-year-old daughter came into the bedroom saying that Alexandria her baby sister had stopped breathing. The girl said their three-year-old sister had pushed the two-year-old under the water while playing in the tub.
Friends of Amanda Clark have spoken out in her defense, saying that the woman’s husband had just left her and the breakup has taken a heavy emotional toll on her.
Neighbor Jodi Malott described to Fox 4 News how Clark was seen frantically running around and screaming for help after Alexnadria’s drowning.
Other people who know Clark insisted that she was a good mother who made a bad mistake, resulting in a terrible accident.
Clark’s two surviving children have been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
She was booked into the Wise County Jail Tuesday on a felony charge of endangering a child. Her bail has been set at $100,000.
The man with whom Clark was having sex while her daughter drowned is not expected to face any charges in the case.
Alexandria would have turned two on Friday. Instead, a candlelight vigil will be held that day in her honor.
