Comedian Wanda Sykes appeared in Boston to perform in support of the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, but the crowed treated her to a round of “boos” after she laid into President-Elect Donald Trump as a racist and homophobe.
“I am certain this is not the first time we’ve elected a racist, sexist, homophobic president,” she told the crowd. “He’s not the first one, he’s just the first confirmed one.” She also called him an orangutan. She compared Trump to her son, saying that while her boy is learning to be a good person, Trump “ain’t learning shit.” They began to boo, and she responded with a harsh rebuke of her own.

Fuck you, motherfucker, fuck y’all. Fuck you, you, you, and you. The evidence is there. The evidence is there. How can you say he’s not a racist? How can you “grab ’em by the pussy.” How can you say he’s not sexist? How can you not say he’s homophobic?
Skyes also flipped the middle finger to the crowd, and one woman came out on stage and gave her hug, flashing the crowd the peace sign. Host of the event, comedian Denis Leary, defended his fellow comic, saying she came all the way from California for the event and “deserved respect.”
“Although other comics, including Worcester native Denis Leary, waded into politics during their sets — Danvers’ own Nick DiPaolo was booed during his — it seemed the crowd reacted far more harshly to Sykes’ take on Trump and the California comedian was quick to fire back,” The Boston Globe reported.
Given how many Hollywood celebrities spoke up about Trump during the election, it’s likely that this just the first of many incidents like this. Politics is always a ripe subject for comedy, for some people–like Sykes–there isn’t much funny about it.
